From dress to a blouse Simplicity 1587 pattern hack

Immediately after seeing the Simplicity 1587 pattern I fell in love with the bodice. After I made the dress I started wondering if I could turn the pattern into a blouse. I had this yellow viscose fabric that I was determined to use for a blouse project so I decided to just go for it.

I placed the pattern from Deer and Doe´s Mélilot blouse on top of the dress bodice and used it as a guide to draw a pattern for the lower bodice. (Any suitable blouse or shirt pattern would do…).

Sewing the blouse wasn’t had after I had already managed the dress once. I was right that the Simplicity 1587 pattern really looks nice as a blouse. However it then took me ages to get good pictures of it! Yellow colour is not the easiest colour to combine with separate bottoms!

Then I got a jackpot and found this very nice wool skirt from the fleamarket (yes, the same trip when I got those shoes in the linen overalls post). I had to shorten the skirt a bit since it was calf length but I am really happy that I found it since now I finally have something that can be worn with the blouse! Besides the skirt is very well made. Nowadays the tartan skirts are often pleated without respecting the pattern but this one has beautiful pleats that are carefully sewn from the top to shape around the hips.

I apparently look like a banana in a skirt!

I was so inspired that I even wore matching tights! My children saw this image and I got an immediate comment: “Mummy looks like a banana in a skirt!”. Well… I’ve never seen a banana in a skirt but that’s just something that can be arranged:

Banana in a skirt!

You can decide yourself! 🙂
