Summer Carolyn pajamas

I got this bird print Lady McElroy cotton lawn from Doughty’s already some months ago. My Sensible Sewing Challenge was at the back of my mind and something clicked in my head. This fabric was perfect for a set of summer pyjamas! I dug out my trusted Carolyn Pajamas pattern by Closet Case Patterns that I have used before. That time I made a long-sleeved version for the winter but now it was time for shorts and short sleeves.

I left out the pipings since I did not have any suitable piping ready. For the trousers, I used the pattern I modified before to get a better fit. However, I hadn’t marked the short length on my pattern, so the length of the trousers is probably different than with the original shorts in the Carolyn pajamas pattern. I also didn’t remember the cuffs before cutting the fabric. This didn’t really bother me since I probably wouldn’t have had enough fabric for them anyway. I think folded hems worked as well for the shorts.

With my lingerie sewing, I have come to love pretty little details. When the pyjama set was ready, I felt that it still needed something extra. So, I took a piece of turquoise ribbon, that matched the colour of the birds’ feathers on my fabric, and added a little bow to decorate the shorts.

I can just imagine me relaxing on my bed with a book (or a phone… let’s be realistic!) with a cup of coffee at the arm’s reach. For anyone that is inspired by my pyjama set and is considering on making a set of classic pyjamas, I can warmly recommend this Carolyn pajamas pattern that you can get at Closet Case patterns.
