Broderie Anglaise blouse – Brodyyripusero

My sewing friend Jenna purged her stash and gifted me this lovely black broderie anglaise cotton. Most of broderie anglaise is white so I didn’t know what to make out of it until I saw this blouse in the Finnish crafts magazine Suuri Käsityö, issue 11-12/2018. The blouse was made of Liberty tana lawn and it had some Christmassy trims on it but I immediately saw the possibilities in the pattern.

The pattern has puffed 3/4 sleeves with gathers at the cuff. The mandarin collar has a sweet ruffle and the front yoke has a slit and gathers that start at the bottom of it. I closed the front opening with a satin ribbon.

Ompeleva ystäväni Jenna tyhjensi kangasvarastojaan ja lahjoitti minulle tämän mustan puuvilla-brodyyrikankaan. Yleensä nämä brodyyrit ovat valkoisia, joten mietin kovasti, mitä tehdä tästä kankaasta. Sitten törmäsin Suuren käsityölehden 11-12/2018 numerossa puseroon, joka sopi kankaalle täydellisesti.

Kaavassa on 3/4 puhvihihat, joiden “ranteissa” on rypytys. Pystykauluksessa on suloinen röyhelö ja etukappaleessa on erillinen kaarroke, johon etukappale rypytetään. Kaarrokkeen keskellä on halkio, jonka päätin sulkea nyörin sijaan satiininauhalla.

I decided to add a bit length to the blouse and remove the rounded hem. I was really careful when I cut my fabric to align the pattern accurately. It is pretty hard to see the black cotton lace that I added to the edge of the yoke due to the dark colour of my fabrics.

Päätin lisätä puseroon hieman pituutta ja suoristaa pyöristetyn helman. Olin todella tarkkana, kun leikkasin brodyyriä, jotta sain kuvion asettumaan symmetrisesti. Kaarrokkeen reunaan ompelin mustaa puuvillapitsiä, vaikka sitä onkin vaikea erottaa valokuvista puseron tumman värin takia.

I can wear this either as a tunic or tucked in like in the image above. (The skirt is my Sandra skirt.) I like the slight Victorian feeling of the fabric combined with the gathers and the puffed sleeves.

Voin pitää tätä joko tunikana housujen kanssa tai tungettuna hameen vyötärön sisään, kuten kuvissa yllä ja alla. Pidän puseron viktoriaanisesta ilmeesta kaikkine röyhelöineen ja puhvihihoineen.

It took me while to finish this project since I wasn’t super into this broderie anglaise fabric or the pattern. However, after I finished it I realised that I actually love it. Such is often the case with projects that have a not-very-exciting fabric. The truth is that those fabrics only come alive when they are made into garments. Finally these garments often end up being just the ones I wear the most.

Ompelu kesti tällä kertaa aikansa, koska en ollut aluksi mitenkään fiiliksissä kankaasta tai mallista. Vasta, kun pusero alkoi valmistua aloin pitää siitä enemmän ja enemmän. Olen huomannut näin käyvän usein, kun käyttämäni kangas on simppelinpuoleinen. Nämä kankaat tuntuvat heräävän eloon vasta, kun niistä ompelee vaatteen. Lopulta sitten nämä nimenomaiset vaatteet ovat niitä, joita tulee eniten käytettyä.

This is all for today. Sorry about the longish pause between the blog posts. I have been sewing and planning a lot and also concentrated fixing some old projects that had problems that prevented me from wearing them. I decided that it would be much better to fix the things I already have in my closet than continuously fill it with new garments. When I got to the right mood I went through a pretty pile of garments that now I can wear with pleasure. In fact, I am currently wearing this dress that originally wasn’t a sewing success. Now it has a new and wider back hem that really transformed this dress!

Tässäpä tämä tällä kertaa. Anteeksi pitkähkö blogitauko. Olen ommellut ja suunnitellut tulevia projekteja, mutta myös korjannut paljon vanhoja vaatteita, joissa oli jotain käyttöä haittaavia vikoja. Totesin, että on järkevämpää korjata vanhaa kuin aina ommella uutta. Loppujen lopuksi sopivalle tuulelle päästyäni kävin läpi aikamoisen kasan vaatteita, joita nyt voin taas käyttää hyvillä mielin. Nytkin päälläni on tämä mekko, joka alunperin ei ollut mikään ompelumenestys. Nyt kun sen helman takaosa on levennetty kankaan jämäpalalla, mekko tuntuu ja näyttää paljon paremmalta!
