I was poisoned by a Victorian parasol!

Victorian arsenic green dyes still have a dangerous reputation. Still, even an innocent-looking beige parasol might cause issues. Who knows what chemicals were used to dye and treat this fabric and fringe trim? I had no idea that I should take precautions when I decided to restore this mid-1800s parasol I found on eBay.

I have restored one parasol once before so I was pretty confident I could make this ratty old thing look like new.

The original parasol before restoration.

This parasol was completely hand-sewn, so I decided to hand-sew the new cover as well, trying to replicate the old methods.
