    May 10, 2018 / 5 Comments

I was inspired by my daughters spring circus performance theme, "Underwater animals", to create her an unique gold fish circus costume. For once I could let my imagination run wild and this is what I came up with!

Pimp your bike (Free crochet pattern for a skirt guard included!)

    April 10, 2018 / 1 Comment

Pimping your bicycle is a nice project. I crocheted a skirt guard and made a nice basket liner that uses old pillow case lace as a decoration. To add some more refashioning, I turned old baby mitten holders into bicycle skirt garters.

Make your own sewist’s notebook! (Free printable templates!)

    July 17, 2017 / 13 Comments

Update: I have collected all the Sewist’s notebook related templates and posts on one page. There you can find also more templates the number of which will grow in the future! I have been working with something special for you, my dear readers! I often get ideas of future sewing projects while I’m sitting on a bus or in bed just falling asleep. I have started wishing there was a way to quickly take notes or make a sketch for not to forget the idea. There are some amazing croquis pads for designers available but after browsing the selection available online, I was convinced that none of the options were…

Pandas, wrist warmers and a suspender skirt

    April 20, 2017 / No Comments

One of the S’s favourite blouses is the yellow one that I made of soft cotton lawn since it has a pattern of cute little pandas on it. The pattern for the blouse comes from Yoshiko Tsukioris wonderful book Girly style wardrobe. Now that I’m leafing through the book once more, I don’t understand why this is the only pattern I’ve sewed from this book. The book is so full of super cute dresses and tunics! The suspender skirt pattern I got from here. Since the pattern contained only rectangular pieces there wasn’t a pattern sheet, only the measurements, that were enough. Originally the suspenders weren’t sewn into place but were…

I made myself a Victorian bashlik hood inspired by I made myself a Victorian bashlik hood inspired by some pretty headwear in my local city museum. This is a perfect thing to wear when it is windy or snowing. The question is: Do I wear it upside down? I started comparing the images on museum websites and it may be that I took my inspiration from a picture where the hood is, in fact, upside down. What do you think? You can read more on my blog (link in bio) through which you can also find a link to my YouTube video. Later, when I was editing my images and videos I found out that @izabelapriorattire has also made a gorgeous blue bashlik. #bashlik #bashlyk #victorianfashion #hood #hoodscarf @espoocitymuseum #historicalfashion #historybounding #sewing #hat #sewcialist #sewistsofinstagram #ompelu #ompeluelämää #paslikka #paslika #pyryhattu #huppu #huppuhuivi
I had some extra time to spend and I popped into R I had some extra time to spend and I popped into Recycling Centre, a huge thrift store nearby. This is why I love that place so much. I found two pairs of vintage suspenders, pretty bobbin lace and hooks and eyes. I have been wanting to make a late Victorian/early Edwardian suspender belt but the modern clips are too small. These ones are perfect. I found out that the company selling these started in 1890s and made ribbons, elastics, suspenders and braces all the way to the 1960s when it turned into manufacturing seatbelts. These suspenders are still in their original packaging and even the elastic works! #kierrätyskeskus #kierrätyskeskuslöytö #vintagefind #historybounding #vintagesuspenders #lace #kirpparit @kierratyskeskus #vintagefashion
