The Amazing mid-1890s sleeves

I got to study another interesting dress from the 1890s. This one is a typical mid-1890s dress with huge leg-o-mutton sleeves. Thus, dating the dress was fairly easy. My warm thanks to the curator Suvi Kettula and Espoo City Museum for allowing me to see this dress!

You can find more details on this dress on the database of Finnish museums here.

The 1895 saw the first issue of the first-ever Finnish sewing, crafting and fashion magazine called Käsitöitä. You can browse through all the 1890s issues here.

The first issue of Käsitöitä Magazine had a pattern for a similar type of bodice with huge leg-o-mutton sleeves.

I have been super busy with weaving lately but I will soon have more interesting posts to share with you, so do subscribe if you haven’t already done so! See you soon!
