This jersey fabric by Shalmiak caught my daughter’s attention at Ommel 2018 and she begged me to get it for her. It took some time to make the jersey into a dress but now finally my daughter has a dress she fancied. I chose the pattern Ottobre 1/2018 31. Viivat.
The pattern comes in sizes 128 to 170 cm. I think I made my daughter the size 134 and it fitted nicely. The original dress had a two-part sleeve with a slit but I taped the sleeve pieces together since I didn’t want to disturb the pattern. I also just turned and stitched the neckline with my coverstitch instead of binding it.
I like this pattern. The elastic waist adds something extra to this pretty basic dress. However, the elastic doesn’t disturb the pattern too much, so the pattern is still suitable for these pretty prints that are nowadays so easily available, if not in your nearest fabric shop then online. I can warmly recommend this pattern. I am pretty sure I’m going to use this pattern several times, particularly because there sizes all the way up to 170 cm.
I also made a whole outfit for my daughter’s little teddy bear using the scraps that were left over. The teddy seemed happy with her new garments:
The smallest scraps still made a matching hairpiece:
