I review the two books, Fabric for Fashion - The Complete Guide and Fabric for Fashion - The Swatch Book. These are books that every sewist's who wants to further her fabric knowledge, will love!
Everybody is talking about Breaking the pattern, the new book by Saara and Laura Huhta of Named clothing. Here is my review, some photos of the launch party and my Sade blouse from the book.
I tried making the Shirtwaist dress from the Gertie's New Book of Better Sewing without making a toile. This taught me a lesson! The fit was not so good...
I taught myself how to make beautiful plissé fabric at home. It's not an easy process but you don't need any special equipment more complicated than an ordinary domestic steaming iron. What you need is patience but the results can be breathtaking!
I bought the wonderful book, The Secrets of Sewing Lingerie by Katherine Sheers and Laura Stanford and tested the first recommended project, Pretty as a Picnic cotton mini. These knickers out of cotton lawn were very fast to make and fit nicely.
