Suuri Käsityö 5/2018 Mekkohaalari - Dress romper < with my hands

Harvoin käsityölehteä lukiessa tulee niin inspiroitunut olo, että kaava on piirrettävä ja ommeltava heti. Tämä Suuri Käsityö 5/2018 Mekkohaalari teki kuitenkin poikkeuksen, sillä toukokuussa alkaneet helteet aiheuttivat meillä kotona akuutin kesävaatepulan. Liikunnalliselle nuorelle neidille mekko-shortsihaalariyhdistelmä on yliveto – ainakaan vaatteet eivät jää hankaloittamaan kärrynpyörien heittämistä rannalla!

I rarely get so inspired that I have to trace and sew a pattern immediately when I see it in a magazine. This dress romper from the Finnish Suuri Käsityö 5/2018 magazine was an exception, especially since the early May heatwave made it clear that we are seriously in need of some hot weather outfits. For an active young lady, this dress/romper is an excellent outfit that allows cartwheeling around the beach.

Kaavassa oli tarjolla kokoja 92 cm – 146/152 cm. Tein S:lle koon 122/128 cm, joka olikin ihan sopiva. Varmuuden vuoksi kuitenkin muotoilin shortsiosan haarasauman oman hyvin istuvan leggins-kaavani mukaan, jotta se olisi mahdollisimman mukava päällä.

The pattern was sized from 92 cm to 146/152 cm. I made the size 122/128 cm for S and the size was just right for her. Just to make sure that the shorts were comfortable, I used my self-drafted leggings pattern to reshape the shorts.

Kangas on Kangaskapinan Helsingin myymälän loppuunmyynnistä ostettu puuvillatrikoopala. Pieni noin puolen metrin pala riitti juuri ja juuri tähän haalariin, vaikka jouduinkin tinkimään hieman hameosan pituudesta. Ihana kukka-raitayhdistelmä sopii minusta täydellisesti tällaiseen helleasuun.

The fabric is printed cotton jersey from Kangaskapina. I only got a little about half a metre remnant and it was just enough for this outfit – even if I had to shorten the skirt a tiny bit. However, the stripe pattern with tropical flowers is perfect for this beach outfit.

S ihastui haalariin heti enkä edes ehtinyt ottaa siitä kuvia, ennen kuin se oli jo yltäpäältä pölyinen ja sinapissa taloyhtiön talkoissa puurtamisen (ja makkaran syömisen!) takia. Onneksi pesu teki tehtävänsä ja haalari saatiin mukaan rannalle heti ensimmäisenä kesälomapäivänä. S heitti heti rohkeasti talviturkkinsa ja hankki sitten itselleen lämpimän olon juoksemalla ympäriinsä.

S loved her dress romper and I didn’t even get to take any picture before the romper was all dusty and covered in mustard after working in our housing company yard bee (which included grilled sausages and lemonade!). Luckily the washing machine did its magic and the romper was ready for the beach on S’s first day of summer holiday. S immediately dived in the water which I found too cold to swim in. All the shivers, however, disappeared after S run around for a few minutes in the warm sun.

Kaikenkaikkiaan Suuri Käsityö 05/2018 Mekkohaalari on hieno kaava. Se onnistuu varmasti aloittelijaltakin, ei vaadi paljon kangasta ja on monen nuoren neidin mielen.

All in all, this pattern was excellent. It is easy to make even by someone who is a beginner, it doesn’t take much fabric and is surely something that young ladies like to wear.
