Donna Karan top and floral capris

For a while ago I bought V1440 pattern from the Donna Karan collection since I thought the white top looked interesting. This collection had also a pair of basic leggings and a jacket. I had some leftover navy blue poplin left after making a shirt for my husband and that was just enough for this blouse. The sizes range from 6 to 14 but again as with most of the big pattern companies there is a ridiculous amount of ease involved. According to the size chart I should have made size 12 but after checking for the actual finished garment measurements I ended up cutting size 6. The size 12…

    Vintage pattern – modern style

I wanted a wrap blouse to wear with my 1950s A-line skirts. I stumbled across this vintage Advance 7701 pattern on Etsy and bought it. The pattern was interesting: the kimono sleeved pattern has basically just a single pattern piece (well one for left side and another for the right side) plus the ties and a small collar piece. It is slightly longer at the back and wraps around the waist. I found this beautiful light pink jersey when digging through the factory remains section of Eurokangas. The fabric is definitely not vintage-like, but I thought it might work just fine.  I don’t know the exact composition of the fabric,…

Back button blouse and a trick for a neater understitching

This blouse 4655 from Lekala was published only a few weeks ago and I bought it almost immediately. The blouse has a fairly loose fit and a ruffled peplum. The shaping consists only of bust darts making it fairly quick to make. I also like the cuffs with the slits in them even if I ended up changing the design a bit when sewing it up. I have been saving some lovely cotton lawn by Atelier Brunette in my stash for a long time, but now decided that it was time for me to use it for this project. I usually get confused if I read Lekala’s instructions, but luckily…

    Cézembre blouse

This blouse is something that I have completely forgotten to post here. It is by a French pattern designer Anne Kerdilè and can be found here. I have actually made this blouse twice. At first I made the smallest size but after finishing it I realised that it was just slightly too small at the shoulders. Luckily I had still enough fabric left, so I made a second blouse this time using a bigger size and now the fit is perfect. I like the unusual cut of the blouse. It is hard to see in the pictures, but the back piece is wider than usual and the seams joining the…

Pandas, wrist warmers and a suspender skirt

One of the S’s favourite blouses is the yellow one that I made of soft cotton lawn since it has a pattern of cute little pandas on it. The pattern for the blouse comes from Yoshiko Tsukioris wonderful book Girly style wardrobe. Now that I’m leafing through the book once more, I don’t understand why this is the only pattern I’ve sewed from this book. The book is so full of super cute dresses and tunics! The suspender skirt pattern I got from here. Since the pattern contained only rectangular pieces there wasn’t a pattern sheet, only the measurements, that were enough. Originally the suspenders weren’t sewn into place but were…
