Named Helmi blouse with a hack

When I made my Named clothing Helmi dress, I decided I needed to make the blouse version as well. The original pattern has some trench coat inspired details but I wanted really to find a good pattern for a loose fitting shirt. For the fabric, I chose this simple black and white stripy viscose fabric. I had written down that the dress I made was a bit tight across the bust. So, for the first time in my life, I made a full bust adjustment. I didn’t want to go up to the next size since the pattern otherwise fitted pretty well. The full bust adjustment made my side seams…

Saraste dress from Breaking the Pattern

I already made the Sade blouse from the new book, Breaking the pattern, by Saara and Laura Huhta of Named clothing. My next make from this book was the Saraste dress. I love the frilly detail at the collar and I found just a perfect Atelier Brunette viscose fabric from Salapakka, Helsinki. Saraste pattern comes in three versions: a long-sleeved blouse, a shirt dress and a sleeveless top. The sizing goes from 1 to 9. After looking at the size chart, I chose to make the size 3 that corresponds to the European size 38 and the UK size 10. This ended up being the right choice for me, although…

Alpi trousers and a refashioned blouse à la Indiana Jones

I managed to grab literally the last Alpi trousers pattern from Named clothing. I was lucky since I had planned on making these trousers for a while. However, don’t bother trying to buy this pattern, at least from Named. Some of their retailers might still have some of these pattern left even though this pattern is fairly old. Anyway, I like the basic look of these trousers. They are quite masculine, pretty loose and have a bit lower waistline than in most of the trousers I have lately made. I got some nice army green cotton sateen in a nice bargain from Materials, Helsinki. The fabric has a tiny bit…

    Named Quinn shirt

The Quinn shirt by Named collection was a pattern that I got for free with the new Stella raglan blouse pattern. The pattern was in Finnish but it is available also in English. It is a relaxed fit button-up with some interesting details. The button placket is shorter than the shirt and is rounded up at the bottom leaving an open vent. The collar is overlapping and the French cuffs are finished with cuff-links made of buttons. The sizes range from EUR 32 to 46 (US 0 to 14 / UK 4 to 18). My measurements came between the sizes 36 and 38. I measured some of my old blouses and…

Named Earth Science sewing pattern collection

Today I headed for the launch of the new Fall/Winter collection of the Named clothing sewing pattern company. The collection is titled Earth Science and designed by the two sisters Saara and Laura Huhta who gave me a warm welcome to their small studio shop. These ladies were super friendly and let me try on the sample clothes from both the newest collection and the older collections. My favourite piece was this Stella raglan shirt with snap fastening and an unusual geometric collar. The green colour is just fantastic! Furthermore, the pattern is actually a 2 in 1 sewing pattern with a Pussy bow collar dress included. This means that there…
