Simplicity 3688: 1940s skirt
I tested the Simplicity 3688 1940s skirt pattern. This was an easy make and I love the outcome. The skirt looks nice when combined with the Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse that I have also made.
Goldfish circus costume
I was inspired by my daughters spring circus performance theme, "Underwater animals", to create her an unique gold fish circus costume. For once I could let my imagination run wild and this is what I came up with!
Book review: The Secrets of Sewing Lingerie
I bought the wonderful book, The Secrets of Sewing Lingerie by Katherine Sheers and Laura Stanford and tested the first recommended project, Pretty as a Picnic cotton mini. These knickers out of cotton lawn were very fast to make and fit nicely.
Introducing: the Pleated Skirt Calculator
I made a free Pleated Skirt Calculator that creates sewing patterns according to your wishes! I also made a tutorial for those that haven't sewn a garment like this before. Have fun with it!
Me Made May ’18
I, Katja Kuitunen of withmyhandsdream.com and @katja.kuitunen, sign up as a participant in Me-Made-May '18. I endeavour to wear a me-made top and a bottom or a dress everyday for the month of May. I will also try to create two whole outfits (top+bottom) and make one set of underwear for myself.
Sew Over It Penny dress
I made a beautiful Sew Over It Penny dress out of viscose crepe. The fabric was very difficult to work with but the result is one of my favourite makes this year.
Hazel skirt
This was a one quick project for my daughter. I found a small remnant piece of this lovely bright floral cotton and I immediately saw it as a spring skirt. I had the lovely Hazel skirt pattern that I used to make pinafores for my daughter and her friend. This time I decided to make just a skirt version. It did not take more than an hour to finish this make after the kids had gone to bed for the night! All the patterns were rectangles so they were quick to cut and sew together. Some gathering at the waist, an elastic band, a little topstitching to keep the elastic…
1930s dress
I love vintage styles and this time I tested the vintage 1930s dress pattern that is originally by McCall's pattern company. This being not my first vintage pattern I knew to expect compact instructions that left most of the technical details out.
Pimp your bike (Free crochet pattern for a skirt guard included!)
Pimping your bicycle is a nice project. I crocheted a skirt guard and made a nice basket liner that uses old pillow case lace as a decoration. To add some more refashioning, I turned old baby mitten holders into bicycle skirt garters.
Elise blouse by Rosie and Me
My blouse sewing continues with the Elise blouse by Rosie and Me. This is a new pattern company for me, although I have been eyeing this blouse for a while. This pattern has cap sleeve and 3/4 sleeve options, French darts at the sides and a nice shawl collar.
